Gabions and Reno® mattresses are used for over 100 years to prevent erosion. Their basic characteristics are: flexibility, longivity, strength, permeability, financial benefit. They are enviornmently friendly. Thanks to their qualities they are applied in slope protection, construction of supporting walls, hydrotechnical instalations etc.

Gabions are rectangular containers of different dimensions. They are filled with river or  pit stones of suitable dimensions to form an elastic, permeable monolitic structure. There are also cylinder-shaped gabions (shown in picture), that are used for sea-shore protection, construction of harbours and wells.

Gabions are most useful from a financial point of view when it comes to:

• Supporting walls up to 5 meters in height;
• Limited space for escavation;
• Dry climate and availabilaty of stone-material;
• Partial subwater construction of the structure;
• Steep/vertical slopes.

Previous installation of vegetation "pockets" in the upper part of gabions enables  development of vegetation.
